Can we just talk about how much Austin has evolved since the first episode?
Remember how he called Ally selfish when she asked him to tell the truth about her writing Double Take? And how in the second episode, all he cared about was Ally getting his song done despite how much work she had to do? And how he was so desperate to put up a new video because he was afraid of losing fans?
But then, something in him changed; he became so much more caring. Him and Ally weren’t just partners anymore, they were legitimately friends. He stood up for her when Tilly tried to humiliate her, saying how he doesn’t care if his career will be trashed because of it. He gives up an opportunity to impress a club owner just so he can dance with Ally and save her night. He gets a guitar autographed by one of Ally’s favorite singers to make up for being late. He sneaks out of his house and risks getting grounded to perform at her fundraiser because he promised he would. He told Jimmy to sign Ally instead of him because he thought Jimmy didn’t want them both on the same label. Not to mention how hard he tried to help Ally get over her stage fright; he never stopped believing in her.
Can we also look at how differently Austin reacted to the possibility of Ally leaving? In the season 1 finale, Austin showed how upset he was when Ally said she’ll be leaving for New York. It took a while for him to realize how much his reaction affected Ally but in season 2, all he said was Oh. Austin didn’t try to stop her from staying behind, he let her decide on her own and when she came to say goodbye, he didn’t tell her he likes her because he thought it might make her change her decision.
Austin became so selfless and caring in the span of two seasons. Now that’s character development.
